The Topline Shed Series 2018
The world’s biggest Men’s Sheds crafts exhibition took place at Belvedere House & Gardens on Wednesday June 13. The Topline Shed Series saw Men’s Sheds from throughout Ireland compete for a top prize of €2,000, awarded to the winning entry by a panel of judges headed by Topline CSR Ambassador Ireland rugby legend Donncha O’Callaghan.

The Shed Series, run jointly by Topline and the Irish Men’s Sheds Association, took place in the spectacular setting of Belvedere House & Gardens in Mullingar. A total of 44 entrants, representing 23 counties, were shortlisted from an initial field of almost 100.
Entrants were invited to reflect upon their Shed’s place in its community, and this theme inspired entries that ranged from the thoughtful and elaborate to the quirky and frivolous. Donncha O’Callaghan was assisted in his judging endeavours by Mairéad Lavery of the Irish Farmers Journal, Éadaoin Keane of Topline, and Barry Sheridan, CEO of the Irish Men’s Sheds Association.
All prizes were supplied by Topline as part of our partnership with Irish Men’s Sheds. The partnership, launched this spring, has seen Topline supply sheds with an extensive range of DIY equipment to assist in their community projects.
Eadaoin Keane, Head of Marketing at Topline said;
“Since the launch of the partnership, I’ve been hugely impressed by the skills, craftmanship and creativity of Irish sheds and their members. This competition has really put those skills to the test, but it’s also been moving, meaningful and, above all, fun”.

Who are Irish Men's Sheds?
Formed in 2011, the Irish Men’s Sheds Association’s mission is to support the development of the Men’s Sheds movement throughout Ireland. IMSA is a member-based organisation which operates to maintain links and share information among the network of Men’s Sheds in Ireland.
Irish Men’s Sheds operate to support the over 400 Sheds located across the island of Ireland. In fact, Ireland has the highest number of Men’s Sheds operating globally. This not for profit organisation focuses on creating a space where men can get together to express themselves, share skills and build relationships.
Men’s Sheds also have an impact on their local community through projects and community outreach, Men’s Sheds have the capability to transform and breathe life back into smaller, rural communities. Here at Topline, we want to support Men’s Sheds across the entire island of Ireland by providing the tools and support they need so that we can Build Communities Together.
Becoming a member of a Community Men’s Shed gives a man that safe and inclusive environment where he can find many of these things in an atmosphere of friendship. And, importantly, there is no pressure. Men can just come and have a chat and a cuppa if that is all they’re looking for!

Topline Announce Partnership with Men’s Sheds and welcome Brand Ambassador Donncha O’Callaghan
On March 12th, we had the pleasure of announcing our exciting, new long-term partnership with Irish Men’s Sheds which is set to benefit communities across the country, with the help of former Munster, Ireland and Lions rugby player, Donncha O’Callaghan.
Donncha will be Topline’s first ever Brand Ambassador representing our 160 affiliated members located throughout the island of Ireland.
The Irish Men’s Sheds Association supports Ireland’s 400 Men’s Sheds – the greatest concentration of sheds in the world. Men’s sheds are firmly rooted in their communities, carrying out countless local projects of value to towns and villages throughout the country. Our new partnership will see Men’s Sheds nationwide receive supplies and support from their local Topline member.
Speaking at the launch, Donncha O’Callaghan said
‘I'm delighted to become the first Topline ambassador. Topline members are not just about the products they sell, they really are at the centre of the communities they operate in and this is why for me the partnership with Men’s Sheds makes perfect sense. The Men's Shed movement is a brilliant, positive example of how men relate to one another and their communities. I’m looking forward to visiting some of the 400 Men’s Sheds in the coming year as well as getting involved in some exciting DIY projects along the way”.
A centrepiece of the partnership will be the annual Topline Shed Series - a crafts competition which will see hundreds of sheds throughout Ireland express their creativity. The event will take place this summer, with generous prizes courtesy of Topline. Another key element of the partnership will be the Community Connections program, which will see Topline members providing product support to assist Men’s Sheds in their various community-based projects.
Eadaoin Keane, Head of Marketing at Topline said,
‘As a buying group, one of Topline’s reasons for existing is to support local independent hardware businesses in serving their local communities. We are delighted that through this partnership, we can now take this a step further by providing support to Men’s Sheds with a wide range of DIY products ideally suited to the types of community-based endeavours that local Sheds undertake”.
Barry Sheridan, Chief Executive Officer of the Irish Men’s Sheds Association said
‘It's not an exaggeration to say that sheds are transforming communities. Through the Topline partnership, sheds will have the tools to transform them even further. This is going to be a genuine, active partnership between two bodies rooted in communities throughout Ireland. Our sheds will see real, tangible benefits from day one. It means more resources and contacts for our sheds, more men using their time for the common good, and stronger, more cohesive communities’.
