A door handle may need to be replaced if it becomes stiff or worn out. You may also wish to change it for decorative reasons. Replacing a door handle can be made incredibly simple when you have our step-by-step guide to follow.

Step 1

Remove Faceplate Screws

Before attaching your new door handle, you will have to first take off your old one. This can be quite difficult, especially if it has been on for a long time and has been well secured. Unscrew each of the screws of the faceplate while holding the door handle in place. Some handles are different and may require a pin to be inserted through a small hole under the handle. The knob should then be released.

Step 2

Remove Back Plate

A flat screwdriver can be used to assist in the removal of the back plate. Find a spot where there is a slight gap between the plate and the door. Force the screwdriver firmly inside this gap and force the plate to become removed from the door.

Step 3

Attach & Secure New Handles

Secure the new door handle in place with its screws and tighten with your screwdriver. Avoid screwing too tightly as this could lead to warping the door. Test the door to see if it operates correctly. Lock and unlock it several times to ensure it is in full working order.
